Introduction
In the summer of 2005, our CME education group conducted an in depth survey with 150 patients with colon and rectal cancer. For this unique project, each participant was sent a 50-minute audio CD featuring an interview with John Marshall, MD, a GI oncology investigator from Georgetown University. On the audio program, Dr Marshall reviewed the information he provides to his patients about the risks and benefits of adjuvant chemotherapy and the advice he delivers on how they can manipulate their lifestyles to promote their health. After listening to each section of the audio program, patients completed an accompanying questionnaire, documenting their reactions to the information.
Additionally, we also conducted one-on-one telephone interviews with each patient in order to ascertain an overview of the demographics, life circumstances and treatments these individuals received as well as important insights into their experiences with their health care providers and oncology education.
This site contains a virtual reproduction to the final report we complied documenting our findings as well as PowerPoint slides of these results. Audio files of the entire interview with Dr Marshall are also available as a point of reference.
